Girl, 12, Killed And 11-Year-Old Fighting For Life After Horrific New Year's Eve Hit-And-Run



A 12-year-old girl has died following a hit-and-run in Oldham.

Police and ambulance services attended the scene of the incident on Ashton Road near to Copster Hill Road shortly after 7.15pm.

On arrival officers discovered a black VW Golf had been involved in a collision with two girls.

One of the girls, aged 12, died at the scene. Her family has been informed but formal identification has not yet taken place.

The second girl, aged 11, is currently in hospital in critical condition, the Manchester Evening News reports .

The driver of the car did not stop following the collision and police are currently trying to locate them.

Local residents took to social media posting that the road was taped off and that a police helicopter was in attendance.

Road closures remain in place in the area and drivers are advised to use alternative routes.

Sergeant Lee Westhead, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “These are tragic circumstances where a young girl has lost her life and I would urge anyone who knows anything to do with this collision to contact police immediately.

“Another girl is currently fighting for her life in hospital and specially trained officers are supporting the families involved.

“Officers are at the scene trying to establish exactly what happened while we also have a dedicated team trying to locate the driver of the car.

“If you have any information about this collision then please contact us. If you saw a black Golf in the area around the time of this incident then I would also urge you to call us.”
